Where I come from, there is a project that is supposed to be helping my community. It started in 1995. My entire life, I have not seen anything good happen from it. It was supposed to improve our lives, but that mission failed because they are corrupt. I was not in school when I was at home. We could not afford it because my parents are too old to work. They look at us kids for help.
Then I heard about Mahenzo and that they assist students with fees so I came here to visit with the director (Stephen Thethe) and brought report cards from my old school. The reports were good, which enabled me to become a student at Mahenzo in 2011 in class 7. The thing that has encouraged me most to continue in my studies are the Friday programs that preach to us. I would tell future students to work hard and keep their faith to God. That is how I have gotten this far.
I would like to preach about God. That is the first thing I will do after I graduate. Everything else will follow. I see my background and they have no faith. I am the only Christian in my family, but I think the faith I have now can help improve the lives of others. One day, I want to go to Makerere University to study commerce.
I love my business class. I like to play football when I am not studying. Something that was supposed to help my community just continues to hurt it. I want something different. My name is Baraka Charo, and I have big dreams.
